"But fingers crossed we both should be well enough to play the two final dates. We don't want to let anybody down." 12/10/07 - Tour Update by Andy Hopkins: Hey.
We're full swing on the NME Rock N Roll Riot Tour and it's the best tour we've ever done. I didn't think the crowd could get any better than the last tour, but they have surpassed themselves - it's wicked.
We played the Barrowlands in Glasgow which was my best show so far - fantastic crowd and a wet one. We just knew we were going to get soaked with drinks being thrown on stage so we made sure some of the equipment was covered up. Great crowd! Our support acts Lethal Bizzle and the Wombats are really ripping it up too.
We won a Q Award for Best New Act! Really proud of that one as it was voted for by fans not industry people so it's really special. We made it down to the awards show where I met the one and only Ian Brown and spotted the gorgeous Kylie although I'm gutted I didn't get to meet her.
We couldn't make the party afterwards as we had a gig in Middlesborough but really happy we made it to the ceremony.
With absolutely no disrespect to the the Q Awards or to all our fans who voted for us, we deciced to give the award away to one of our fans at the show in Manchester. We thought it was the best thing we could do and our way of showing how much we respect our fans.
There was one lad at the front of the crowd who was singing every single word and we all decided he was the one who was going to get it.
We pulled him out of the crowd and got him on stage and gave him the award - poor bloke was shaking. We took him backstage took a photo and booked him a taxi home - he was a bit worried he might get jumped after the gig!
Looking ahead to the Stereophonics tour next month - we saw the boys at the Q awards and we're really looking forward to supporting them again. After that it's back to Japan before a well earned Christmas break and stuffing some Turkey down.
If you've seen us on tour and didn't find what you wanted on our merchandise stall, check out the online store here where we've just added some more clobber.
Andy.

The Enemy are nominated for two different awards: Anthem of the Summer ("Away From Here") and Best Newcomer Award on the UK Festival Awards 2007.Voting is open until Sunday 28th October and the winners will be announced on Tuesday 6th November 2007. You can vote for The Enemy: HERE
The Enemy performing at the Godiva Festival, June 14th 2007 as captured on film. "Inspired to stand up and make themselves heard following a catalogue of blows to their industrial heritage (something of a car plant mecca, redundancies have been handed out like confetti in recent years), the three-piece were quickly picked up by seminal 1970s label Stiff Records before eventually pricking the ears of Atlantic Records.
A number one LP, Q Award for Best New Act and the patronage of hometown heroes The Specials later – and it all adds up to quite a six months for the Cov lads." You can read the Manchester Evening News Blog HERE and a previous article about The Enemy HERE , where Tom Clarke says: "Coventry’s got something to be proud of again". ==========================================================================
Coventry's The Enemy have scooped "Best New Act" at this years Q Awards held yesterday (08/10/07) in London as the lads debut album, "We'll Live And Die In These Towns" spent a thirteenth week inside the UK Top 40 Album Chart. Tom Clarke, Liam Watts and Andy Hopkins took time out from their hectic nationwide tour to be at the Q Awards at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.
After the lunchtime ceremony, Tom, Andy and Liam travelled 243 miles up north to play at Middlesborough's Town Hall as part of the "NME Rock 'n' Roll Tour". It's not an easy life being in a band but they wouldn't have it any other way! | |
